FRANKFURT, May 5 (Reuters) - Gold and gold receivables held by euro zone central banks fell by 12 million euros to 240.829 billion euros in the week ending May 1, the European Central Bank said on Tuesday.
Net foreign exchange reserves in the Eurosystem of central banks fell by 0.5 billion euros to 264.9 billion euros ($354.8 billion), the ECB said in its regular weekly consolidated financial statement.
Gold holdings fell following sales by one euro zone central bank, consistent with the 2004 Central Bank Gold Agreement, which outweighed the purchase of gold by another, the ECB said.
The ECB's balance sheet totalled 1.8 trillion euros last week down from 1.824 the previous week.
